Swansea - Somerset
Youth Soccer League

Established 1983

The Spring Travel Division is for the better than average players who are dedicated to learning the game at a higher level. The players for these teams are required to participate in tryout which takes place in October.

Tryouts will be announced one to two weeks prior to the scheduled day and they will be posted on the league website, on the Snack Truck and at fields of North Elementary School on Fall Rec Saturday.

The teams in the Spring Travel Division are setup by gender, Boys Teams and Girls Teams - starting at U8 and continuing through U18. However, we don't always have a team in every division and it depends on
- whether or not we have a coach who is interested in coaching in the division
- the Board's approval of a coach for that division
- and do we have enough players to declare the team in that division.
FYI - The soccer season is from August 1st to July 31st so, as an example - if your child plays in U8 in the Fall of '09, they would play U8 in the Spring of '10.

The Spring Travel game season starts around April 1st and continues through beginning of June. Each team will play 4 home games at North Elementary School in Somerset and 4 away games.
Swansea-Somerset participates in the South Coast Soccer League (SCSL) which includes the towns in Southeastern Massachusetts - including Cape Cod and the Islands..... SSYSL has no input into the towns that we compete against or the towns that we travel too. This is completely set/determined by SCSL.

If you are selected to play on a Spring Travel team, the registration fee will now include 1hr of team practice time each week at the SSYSL's Indoor Soccer Facility from December thru mid-March. This is 1hr per week and if the team doesn't use it, they lose it. The hour can not be banked in December and then added to their practice time in January or February. However, the team can rent additional time at the facility depending on availability.

Please also note that the Coach completely controls and manages any other winter or indoor soccer play (additional practice time or participation in an indoor or futsal league), SSYSL doesn't manage or determine what the spring teams do in the winter.

The Spring registration fee doesn't include the required spring uniform (approx $40) or any other optional spring equipment - like warm-ups, back packs, etc.

If you have any questions or would like to know more about Spring Travel, please contact the Travel Director, the President or Vice President.... You can also review the rules for Spring Travel by clicking on the Rules of Play from the main menu on our home page at
www.ssysl.net and then scroll to the Spring Competition rules - Players and Coaches.
